Ward Admission

Almost all patients who are referred to us are planned for a cardiac surgical procedure. Therefore, usually all needed cardiologic examinations and tests have been performed which revealed a heart disease that can be treated by a surgical procedure.

After a patient has been referred to us we will discuss how to proceed and will set a date for the procedure at our patient conference which is held on a daily base.
Usually we can realize an admission appointment within a month after referral.

Before the day of admission to the ward you will receive a confirmation letter, which will provide you all detailed information regarding your admission.

On the day of admission, we would like to ask you to check in with the admission nurse at the ward who will take care of all the paper work in order to register you with the hospital.

For the admission you might need the following documents:

Admission form of you primary care physician
Health insurance card
Retirementplan ID number
Our confirmation letter
Personal photo ID

After finishing the administrative part you will receive your room and all preoperative assessments will be performed. You will also meet with the nursing staff and the surgeon who will take care of you during your stay. Furthermore, a blood sample, chest x-ray and an ECG will be taken as far as those have not been performed during the last 7 days before admission.

In a conversation with the anesthesiologist and surgeon you will receive detailed information about the procedure planned for you. The need for the procedure and the associated risks and complications as well as the success rate will be discussed with you.
