Research at the
Dept. of Cardiac Surgery

In order to provide medical care at the highest level innovative research is necessary. Therefore we established the Research Center of Cardiac Tissue and Organ Regeneration (FKGO) where a group of international scientists is working on new aspects in heart valve tissue engineering, myocardial regeneration, stem cell therapy, biological pacemakers as well as ischemia/reperfusion injury of the lung. A new project group actually is establishing a new research model to evaluate myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury. We emphasize the interdisciplinary cooperation with other research laboratories, including the Institute of Biomedical Research, The Proteomic Core Facility, The Institute of Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Therapy (IRMED e.V.), and the Depts. of Hematology and Experimental Surgery.
